Dean Blunt (6/10)
Start 20:05 / End 20:45
First of the two world premieres offered tonight by the CTM.13 festival for Adventurous Music and Art. We are on the avant-garde field of the 2000’s music, so something not for everybody. The theater bell trills, the lights start fading out, the show starts. A girl and a boy sit on an orange sofa before a small table with a floor lamp besides. They recite/read a piece about love, life and their relationship. Their reading is alternated and accompanied from the Dean Blunt’s music: an electronic ambient noise drone flow, sometimes pretty hard to digest. I appreciated this mix of music and theater, even because it was a surprise for me, so I can’t deny them the sufficiency!
Sal Mineo: Xiu Xiu + Eugene S. Robinson (7/10)
Start 21:05 / End 21:50
Eugene S. Robinson of Oxbow on vocals and Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu at a magic effects desk. Forget their respective bands, you may be disappointed or even shocked from their exhibition (I’ ve seen some people leaving the theater during the show): no melody but just a no-stop blues noise electro stream that blows your mind off. While Jamie Stewart produced all possible sound effects with his different instruments, Eugene S. Robinson modulated his wonderful voice (he can bewitch me even reading just a simple phone book) like a music instrument with the result of a post apocalyptic extreme wail. You could survive just closing the eyes and let you kidnapped and raped by that surrealistic avant-garde show. Thumbs up for the CTM.13 festival to have organized such an extreme event!
