Blood Command (6/10)
Start 20:00 / End 20:20
A Punk Rock band from Norway opening for Biffy Clyro. WTF??? After an initial dismay and some sound tuning matters for the band the foot started keeping the rhythm and the head to bang because their songs are melodic too and the band knows how to spread the energy on stage! Better than I thought.
Biffy Clyro (6/10)
Start 21:00 / End 22:45
After the first two songs you understood that the choice of Blood Command as support makes sense. Forget the melodic Rock band of the first album like “Blackened Sky” or “The Vertigo of Bliss”: the setlist is made by fast and aggressive songs that made them almost unrecognizable. The hits and some ballads don’t lack and their songwriting is so good that makes every song catchy and proper for a public well mixed in age and musical taste. Funny was the singer’s reaction after receiving a beer plastic glass direct on the face while he was singing: he finished the song, dropped the guitar down and jumped off of the stage on the audience to kick his ass! I didn’t appreciate the choice to play shirtless: they don’t need to show muscles and tattoos to win more fans, they have already good songs and just the thirteen girls get wet for this stuff. The main problem of the gig was the sound in my opinion: although I was pretty near the stage I could listen only a bad mixed sound with disturbing metallic background. That was a pity because the band has a good clear sound and I have already attended concerts in this venue, which were pretty ok. Don’t ask me why and I hope to have been the only one…
Venue: Huxley’s Neue Welt
Price: 28,20€ at Koka36
Setlist: Biffy Clyro
Berlin, 25.02.2012
They don’t play shirtless because they’re trying to attract female fans or something. They’ve played like that since the very beginning. It’s just because it’s fucking hot on stage. Then it became a sort of Biffy’s trademark. ‘If you ever see us play in shirts you will know there has been some disaster’
I think he meant it in a positive way, underlining Biffy Clyro’s good songwriting which could lose focus due to the shirtless impact, in a society who is growing to like very superficial things in music.
