Thom Yorke

Atoms for Peace (9/10)
Start 24:00 / End 01:40
After a wild fight to find a ticket for the already sold-out concert (80,00€ at the end, thanks Davide!), after one hour standing in line in front of the venue with wind and freezing temperature, after two hours of electro boring Dj-set, Thom Yorke came in on stage with Nigel Godrich and Tarik, responsible for the visual effects, to start the special album launch party called by Thom himself: “two turntables & a microphone”. It was much more than this, folks! Fuck all the people who said it would be just a dj-set, and that price in eBay (150,00€ average) was crazy. Thom also played many songs from his solo album “The Eraser”, besides the new songs of “Amok”. All of them accompanied by proper visual effects showing circles and lines, which were to remind the primordial soup with monocell organisms, as well as outer space alien trails and enlightening cubical coloured forms. Everything was projected on three widescreens installed at the three sides of the stage, as if they were wrapping you and keeping you tight to the music/visual flood. Thom danced with his typical style and played guitar on many pieces, besides singing and tuning on the turntables for the whole performance. What made this event unique was the re-arranging of almost every song, with the addiction of psychedelic slow intros, powering the bass structure and closing them with electro-spacey queue linking to the next song, as a non-stop flow that makes you dance and feel like a part of the whole. If someone in the 70s asked himself how will sound the psychedelic music in 50 years, well, yesterday evening they would have had their answer. Serious candidate to gig of the year despite the fact that we are only in March.

Thom Yorke’s Dj Set (7/10)
Start 01:40 / End 3:35
Low lights, headphones on, body just a bit curved over the turntables and Thom started his dj-set offering a continuous electro-flow based on drum&bass, jungle and afro-beat that made all the people dance and jump. It was curious to notice was how much fun he had placing the tracks… Do we have to expect him as Dj the next time he will play in Berlin???
