——— (6/10)
Start 20:00 / End 20:40
On a Sunday evening, with more than 20 degrees and the sun still shining, not everyone likes the idea of going into a dark venue to enjoy some dark music, and the number of people waiting outside the Bi Nuu is the proof of that.
The first band performing comes from Czech Republic and doesn’t have a name; you can spot them among the internet under “wedon’thaveaname”, “nic” or just a black filled space. The performance started with a melodic slow keyboard intro to a show based on a mix of Black Metal and Metalcore. The cold blue lights and the band’s mightyful wall of sound succeeded in capturing the audience, which continuously showed its appreciation for the show. The band does not propose anything new in the scene, but the it does what it does pretty well, and if you are into this kind of music, just take a few minutes to listen to its material here:

Syndrome (6/10)
Start 20:55 / End 21:25
Syndrome is a solo-project of Amenra’s guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove. The stage featured him sitting alone on a chair with his guitar, while a sort of movie was projected on a widescreen behind him. Syndrome’s performance moved among Post-Rock, Ambient and Drone, and it could be seen as a melancholic and depressive interlude between the first band and Amenra. The movie showed random black-and-white images of landscapes, urban views and horses details in no particular order (or maybe I just didn’t catch it). The music composed a proper soundtrack to accompany it. Always nice to have the chance to appreciate live the technic which sees the artist play a part of a song while live recording it, and then enjoy him play another part of the song over the recorded one, which plays as a background sound.

Amenra (7/10)
Start 21:45 / End 22:44
Amenra comes from Belgium and plays an intriguing fusion of everything you can call “Post” in the evil music. Call it Post-Black Metal or Post-Hardcore, as you want, add Doom and Sludge to it, and you can get an idea of what we’re talking about. Amenra alternated whispered moments to screams and desperate violence, which tore your ears apart. The dark atmosphere with no light effects increased those feelings; few lights only came out of the projected images on the widescreen behind the band. Everything was black-and-white, everything spreading energy continuously from the stage. No words from Amenra, just screams as if there were no tomorrow; floods of sweat, a hypnotized audience marking with the head each bass note, and a frontman who sang turning his back to the audience for almost the entire concert, for finally getting rid of his t-shirt and showing a gigantic celtic cross turned upside down, tattooed on the whole back! Even if Amenra is a band that owes a lot to what Neurosis did in the 90s, after the show everybody understood the merits Amenra currently has for deserving a place at Neurot Recordings.
