Melvins (8/10)
Start 21:00 / End 23:00
Melvins is a historical band from the U.S.; active since the beginning of the 80s the band has spread worldwide the verb of Sludge, Stoner, Doom, Drone, Post-Punk and Grunge with no rest. Back in the days Melvins created a completely new sound, merging post-punk features with Black Sabbath oriented metal sounds. Since then, Melvins’ work has inspired thousands of bands for over 30 years, consacrating the band to music history. The sound is easily recognizable by even one simple bass riff, and each one of Melvins’ note comes to the listeners as heavy as an elephant on their back. This was the first of a two-evenings show, where Melvins will perform a selection of their albums in their entirety. Lysol, Egg Nog and Houdini were scheduled for the first evening. It gives me goosebumps just to pronounce those names. The evening was sold out, with a long line of people standing in front of the Festsaal, waiting for the gate to open. No opening band scheduled, the stage was already set for the Melvins, with the usual impressive double drum set in the middle of the stage. Suddenly some sounds start playing, an intro of a Black Sabbath’s song to accompany the band’s rise on the stage; just a few seconds and the mammoth started crushing everything. No scenic design, only a few words exchanged with the audience, but floods of energy coming from the stage and back. After a break of less than 15 minutes, Melvins came back on stage to complete the two hours intensive set. King Buzzo was the first one to leave the stage, then bassist Jared Warren jumped into the audience to mosh along with the people in the first rows; everything while the two drummers Coady Willis and glorious Dale Crover (ex Nirvana) took the concert to the end. No other comment is necessary, I hope the pictures can describe at least a little bit of what happened. See you tomorrow.
