Larsen feat. Little Annie (7/10)
Start 20:10 / End 21:00
Larsen, accompanied by Little Annie at vocals, was a nice surprise for a big part of the audience, besides being a proper opener for Swans. It’s hard to explain the music resulting from this combination: try to image a mix between the darker Lou Reed and a Amy Winehouse reciting a Voodoo litany, all on Experimental Rock tunes moving from Post Rock to Noise Rock. The Italian band Larsen worked with Michael Gira and Xiu Xiu in the past, and you can still hear his paw. An interesting proposal, which deserves to be deeper approached and followed.

Swans (9/10)
Start 21:20 / End 23:30
Since Michael Gira reformed Swans in 2010 after a rest of 13 years, he often stopped by Berlin for a concert. In the city he also completed a part of the last Swans’s album “The Seer”, and the connection between the band and Berlin goes beyond this easy work relationship, as you can understand knowing both of them. Swans goes beyond a style definition, going through and merging Post-Punk, Drone, Doom and Noise Rock along its 30-year career. Each concert is a story on its own, since you never know what you are going to experience. After wearing earplugs, you just have to lose yourself into the cosmic astral flood, where all becomes part of a cathartic ritual. Swans create every time something unique, and after three times seeing them live, I can’t get enough of it. The band played as usually with no imperfections, and with an amazing coordination and harmony between all of the members. No light effects, no scenic design, no encore, just a flood of noise. Swans played what it wanted, with big space for improvisation; all of the members had their eyes on Michael Gira, who guided this perfect machine as an orchestra director. A round of applause 10 min long at the end of the two hours performance…and it wasn’t even enough. That might be the reason why Michael dropped his jeans, showing his skinny ass to the audience…
