Earthship (6/10)
Start 19:35 / End 20:05
Earthship is a Berlin-based band with two albums and a recent EP out. The band could often be found opening for bands in some Hardcore / Metal clubs in Berlin. The German trio, formed in 2010 by The Ocean Jan Oberg former drummer, played some honest Hardcore with strong Sludge influences, which didn’t shine for originality but whose power shouldn’t be underestimated. Earthship started in front of a bunch of people, maybe due to the snow outside or the early starting time, but it wasn’t at all frightened and the members well showed their ability as musicians, offering a show which warmed the feet and ears of the audience.
Scale The Summit (8/10)
Start 20:20 / End 21:00
Scale The Summit, from L.A., impressed everybody who didn’t know the band much, and confirmed their capabilities to the fans. With a brand new album “The Migration” released via Prosthetic, Scale The Summit is currently touring Europe as support act for Intronaut. The four young guys showed to have astonishing technique: Pat Skeffington gave its best at the impressive drum set, the 6-strings bass of Mike Michell enchanted the attendees and only God knows what both guitarists, with their 7-strings guitars, made on the stage. Chris Letchford and Travis Levrier made their instruments speak and using the tap technique among others, it almost seemed as if they were playing piano on their guitars. The result was an Instrumental Progressive Metal which can find only few competitors on the scene. The band defined its style as “Adventure Metal”, which can explain the sensations felt during its show: a long journey away from everything and everybody. Its cerebral and elaborate sound didn’t bore for its complexity but was widely appreciated by the audience, for its extreme quality.
Intronaut (8/10)
Start 21:35 / End 22:25
Formed in 2004 as a side project of some members of Uphill Battle, Anubis Rising and Exhumed, Intronaut then turned into a solid and permanent band, which recently released a new album “Habitual Levitations: Instilling Words With Tones”. The band proposed a show almost divided in two parts: during the first half hour Intronaut played an instrumental-oriented set, with clean vocals supporting the Progressive Metal; the second part instead saw the band push on the accelerator, with screamed vocals which excited the audience thru its Post-Metal flavor, which sometimes reminded of the unfortunately disbanded Isis. The show was enriched by visual images projected on a widescreen, featuring the animated album artwork and film images that capture the audience attention. Highlights of the concert were with no doubt the Jazz moments where the rhythmic session build by Joe Lester on bass and Danny Walker on drums fired up the attendees. The ending saw just Danny and Dave Timnick on percussions which closed a great but unfortunately short concert.
