Lykke Li (7/10)
Start 20:40 / End 21:55
Lykke Li came to Berlin for the third date of her 2014 tour – started just five days ago in Stockholm – aimed to launch and promote her last album I Never Learn, that will be officially out on May 6; the release of the album has been anticipated by two singles, the wonderful ballad Love Me Like I’m Not Made of Stone and No Rest for the Wicked, while all the other songs were new to the audience.
A sold out Astra welcomed the 28 years old Swedish songwriter, that since the start looked pretty inspired and in good shape: to make clear what the tour is about, she opened the gig with I Never Learn.
The scenography was essential: Lykke and the members of her band in total black look, a few narrow black drapes vertical on the stage and white lights and smoke effects to create an atmosphere fundamentally based on contrasts.
A balanced set list alternated her last works with previous ones, from Wounded Rhymes and from her debut album Youth Novels: the overall result was well-adjusted, showing continuity in the evolution of Lykke Li’s heterogenic music, which ranges from indie rock to electro and pop. The gig reached its climax with Love Me Like I’m Not Made of Stone, when the songwriter asked for some whiskey and exalted her soprano voice, even if most probably the greatest part of the fans were there to listen to I Follow Rivers live.
In general, the reaction of the public to the new tracks of I Never Learn was positive, giving to Lykke a good feedback for the rest of the tour and her next compositions.
