Melt-Banana (8/10)
Start 21:15 / End 22:10
Melt-Banana is a Noise-Punk-Grindcore legend from Japan. Founded in the early nineties of the last century they managed to deliver an impressive mixture of Punk Rock put in the blender together with electronic bleeps and blonks, metal riffs and metal drumming. On top of this there is singer Yasuko Onuki’s quite unique vocal style that actually can evoke images of being scolded by a very upset woman. Or one could also
describe it as a quite high pitched rapping style. At least that’s the way Wikipedia puts it.  The songs typically followed each other without leaving a break for applause. There only were two small pauses in one of
them Yasuko Onuki announced how happy they were to be back in Berlin followed by “and you are, too” with a broad smile. I learned that all the lyrics are in English but ‘close the door’ were actually the only words I managed to understand (but that’s just me of course). The concert was a blast and a good part of the audience was dancing and smiling and the rest was at least smiling. And as the saying goes ‘You cannot listen to Melt-Banana, you must experience Melt-Banana”. I second that!
