Merrimack (6/10)
Start 20:00 / End 20:45
Merrimack is a Black Metal band from France, which received the privilege to open the European tour of Mayhem. The band have deserved without doubts this opening role, since has a long militancy in this scene and its proposal can be described as true evil Black Metal, where the lack of originality was well balanced by a flood of violence at full speed, which sometimes left the space for some mid-tempos and atmospherical overtures. Although the response of the Berlin audience was quite cold and not particularly involved, Merrimack offered a decent opening show, able to weak up the evil side of each attendee, before Mayhem came to the stage.

Mayhem (9/10)
Start 21:20 / End 22:30
Mayhem is a Norwegian Black Metal band formed in Oslo in 1984 and it’s considered among the pioneers of this music style. Some days ago Mayhem has released its latest album “Esoteric Warfare” for the label Season Of Mist: an evidence that the band is still alive and has still something to say after thirty years from the first album. The current lineup maintains only Necrobutcher of the original one, is featured by the voice of Attila Csihar, by the drums of Hellhammer, and completed by Charles Hedger and Teloch, who replaced in 2008 Blasphemer, after his decision to focus in the band Ava Inferi. It’s hard to compare the current band with the first seminal group, that design and developed the characteristics of the Black Metal, but Mayhem of 2014 is still releasing albums with dignity, trying to contaminate this usually closed music style with other genres and to develop it to post-nuclear sonic scenarios. Mayhem, even thanks to this incredible line up, offered to the audience an amazing powerful evil show, which made the fans scream till the end. It doesn’t matter if you don’t approve its latest music direction, fact is that a setlist which contains masterpieces as “Pagan Fears”, “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas”, and “Freezing Moon” and ended with “Pure Fucking Armageddon”, is alone worth the ticket price . If you add characters as Attila Csihar, who looked like always more to an infernal demon, Hellhammer with a drum set as big as the half of the stage, and  Neurobutcher, who seemed to have suffered with thirty years of Mayhem militancy the same corrosion process of Gollum with his magic Ring, you understand that a Mayhem’s concert is still in 2014 something to don’t miss at all!
