Pearl Jam (10/10)
Start 20:00 / End 23:00
It’s a long lasting love story the one between Pearl Jam and Berlin Wuhlheide. The band led by Eddie Vedder plays for the seventh time in a sold out Kindl Bühne, in front of an enthusiastic audience of circa 17.000 fans from all over the world.
Being a Pearl Jam fan means almost believing in a faith. The devotion and involvement that the audience show all along the concert can be just felt in the air, in the way people clap, sing and mosh during the whole gig.
In return, Eddie & Co. do not spare themselves and give us a priceless present: a 3 hour concert filled with some of the greatest songs they have ever written – such as “Jeremy”, “Alive” and “Even Flow” from “Ten” – but also from the new album “Lightning Bolt”. The setlist which changes at every gig – thanks also to the rich repertoire Pearl Jam can draw from – is various and interesting, featuring also pearls like “Immortality” with a suffering guitar intro that just gets under our skin and “Crazy Mary”, covered from a Victoria Williams’ song.
The Grunge roots of the Seattle band are still there for us to hear. The guitars are harsh and distorted and often burst into prolonged passionate confrontations between the two guitarists Mike McCready and Stone Gossard, and sometimes even with Eddie Vedder on guitar. Showing a great stage presence and a unique charisma, the lead singer runs and jumps on stage for the whole concert irradiating us with a great energy in songs like “Corduroy”, “Do the evolution” and “Reviewmirror” but also giving us shivers with his intense interpretation in songs with slower tempos like “Nothingman” and “Immortality”.
There are no special effects, no videos on the background, no impressive light designs: it’s just powerful rock and pure talent. Nothing else. That is what makes Pearl Jam one of the greatest and most authoritative rock bands alive and an absolute must-see for music lovers.
